Dame Elizabeth Blackadder, born in Falkirk (Scotland) in 1931, has a long connection with Edinburgh, having graduated in 1954 with what was then a new degree in Fine Art, incorporating courses at Edinburgh University and the city's College of Art. She returned to Edinburgh in 1962 to teach at the College of Art, and continued until her retirement.
This Exhibition scans sixty years of activity, and reveals Ms. Blackadder, best known for her watercolours and paintings of flowers and cats, as an eclectic artist. The first exhibits are from the early 1950's, and the latest are dated 2011. Ms. Blackadder continues to paint and is participating in some events in Edinburgh this summer.
Portraits by Elizabeth Blackadder
On show are some fine female portraits from her student years, including a self-portait (1951) showing the artist, serious for her 20 years of age, absorbed and observant.
