Strengthening Rotator Cuff Muscles

The majority of shoulder injuries in tennis or racquetball happen because of the excessive forces on the tendons of the shoulder muscles. The repetitive motion of racket acceleration and deceleration can easily overload the small shoulder muscles, especially if they are weak or tight or if there are imbalances.

Rotator Cuff Care

The shoulder joint has the biggest range of motion of all joints in the body. Because of this large range of motion, the ligaments alone are not able to provide sufficient stability in all planes of movements. The other four muscles that assist the ligaments to stabilize the joint are:supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and subscapularis, commonly known as rotator cuff.

It is extremely important for tennis and racquetball players to strengthen the rotator cuff muscles on a regular basis. Besides strengthening, you should stretch your chest and rotator cuff as well.
